This photograph captures time and place perfectly; U.S. fisherman - all men - arrive at Barney Lamm's Ball Lake Lodge from Kenora in CF-BTH for a week of fishing in the English River system. It all ended in 1970 when it was found that British-owned Reed Paper company had contaminated a whole river system with Mercury and not only sport fishing but life as they knew it ended for local First Nations.
That appears to the Barney Lamm at the foot of the ramp. Later he would partner in Ontario Central and expand it. The Stinson was one of his Ball Lake Transportation SR-9s, CF-BGJ or CF-BGM.
Ontario Central Airlines The Kenora Years by Ed Zaruk is a readable and engrossing book tracking the life of a remarkable man, his airline and Kenora bush pilots in those years. - Photographer: unknown
